Gilas bags bronze in FIBA Asia

MANILA Gilas Pilipinas leaned on Paul Lee's endgame heroic to beat China, 80-79, on Saturday night to finish third in the 5th FIBA Asia Cup in Wuhan, China.

Lee drilled in three charities with no time left after he faked off two defenders from the big arc to the frustration of China's home crowd.

It was the best finish for the Filipino dribblers in the tournament, surpassing four place finish in 2010 in Beirut and 2012 in Tokyo.

The host team could have won the game but Wang Zhelin missed what could have been the insurance buckets from the stripe with five seconds to go.

Marcus Douthit grabbed the important defensive rebound then LA Tenorio issued the outlet pass, putting on Lee's hands the fate of the team

Ranidel de Ocampo topscored with 18 points spiked by a perfect 3-of-3 clip from beyond the arc while Douthit outrebounded the Chinese bigmen with 22 rebounds and 10 points while Tenorio, Beau Belga and Japeth Aguilar all put in double-digit outputs in solid relief jobs.*PNA
