Bacolod, NegOcc traffic
study to be conducted

University of the Philippines -Diliman National Center for Traffic Safety director, Sean Palmiano, and assistant director Ric Sigua met with Councilor Carl Lopez recently on the planned comprehensive traffic study for Bacolod and Negros Occidental, a press release from the office of Lopez said.

The study, to be completed in six months, involves the installation of directional signage, loading and unloading, CCTVs and other safety devises, greening of national roads, pavement markings, and anti-pollution measures, the press release also said.

It added that Lopez has asked Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. to support the initiative that aims to complement the plan to create a one-Negros region. Once the study is completed, it will be presented to the Department of Transportation and Communication for funding, the press release said.

A meeting with the Department of Public Works and Highways district engineers in Negros Occidental is also scheduled next week, the press release added.*

GAD advocate
named to NAPC

The National Anti-Poverty Commission for Negros Occidental elected recently Marie June Pavillar-Castro as focal person.

Castro is a gender and development advocate and Silay City former Sangguniang Panlungsod member, and chair of the PILIPINA-Bacolod/Negros Occidental Chapter and the Provincial Council for Women. She was elected by participants of the “Second Round of Regional Assembly on Harnessing BS/CSO Collectivity and Capacities on the Ground”, organized by NAPC June 3-5 at the Amigo Terrace Hotel in Iloilo City, the press release said.

She will serve as member of the Regional Poverty Reduction Action Team of Western Visayas with Teddy Cañete as her alternate, the press release also said.

The Provincial Focal Person will assist in conducting orientation workshops for local poverty reduction action teams, the press release also said.

They will have a command conference in Tagaytay City on June 23-25, the press release added.*
