The major streets and thoroughfares of Bacolod City will be closed during the 116th Independence Day parade in the city from noon to 5 p.m. of June 12.
A resolution of the Sangguniang Panglunsod authorized the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, through the office of Mayor Monico Puentevella to close Lacson Street, from the North Capitol Road to Hernaez Street, Araneta Street, the Public Plaza and SM City, from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, for the parade.
School bands, public and private school delegations, military and police units, patriotic organizations, city and barangay officials and employees, civil societies, civic groups, the private business sectors, among others, will join the Independence Day Parade, the press release said.
Councilor Wilson Gamboa, is over-all Chair of the celebration, with Councilors Jocelle Batapa-Sigue and Noli Villarosa.
A P30,000 prize will be given to the winner of the 116th Philippine Independence Day Celebration Dressed Parade Floats Competition that will be open to all 61 barangays of Bacolod City, the press release said.
Second and third place winners will receive P20,000 and P10,000 respectively; and five consolation winners will get P5,000 each. All the floats will be displayed at SM City Bacolod after the parade, it added.*
