Suspension eyed
vs. six kagawads

Six kagawads of Barangay Puhagan in Valencia town, Negros Oriental, are facing possible suspension allegedly for abuse of authority.

The six are Angeles Sarita, Gaspar Paalaman, Lade Venzuelo, Edwin Abante, Jesus Joge Qui-od, Jr. and Felicisimo Abante.

Only Puhagan Barangay Captain Leonarda Sarita and her son, kagawad Algeber Sarita, have not been included in the complaint filed by some barangay residents.

The case, now pending final resolution by the Sangguniang Bayan, stemmed from the purported refusal of the respondents to concur in the appointments of the barangay treasurer, secretary, tanods, and health workers, among others.

Reports say that their failure to concur in the appointments was “politically motivated” as the six kagawads allegedly wanted their supporters appointed to some barangay positions.

Of the six, four are guards for a security agency that provides services to the Energy Development Corporation in Valencia.

A source, who requested anonymity, said that about 120 have not received their honoraria since December 2013 because of the lack of concurrence from them.

Valencia Mayor Edgar Teves said in a press conference yesterday that he has no choice but to enforce their preventive suspension while investigation is going on.

He, however, said that he has not yet received a copied of the resolution from the SB.*PNA
