Turkmenistan arrives, aims to hurdle
AFC President's Cup 2014 Qualifier

Top seed Turkmenistan arrived late last night at the Bacolod-Silay Airport for the Asian Football Confederation President's Cup 2014 Group B Qualifier scheduled May 6 to 10 at the Panaad Park and Sports Stadium.

Turkmenistan head coach Rowshen Meredov said their aim is to pass the Group Stage and advance to the finals of the AFC President's Cup this year.

With four of his players coming from the Turkmenistan national team, coach Meredov said his team is ready for the tournament where they will play against North Korea, Chinese-Taipei, and host Philippines represented by the Ceres La Salle Football Club.

Considering all the three other teams in Group B to be strong, the Turkmenistan coach said it will be tough and interesting tournament.

Coming to Bacolod four days ahead of the competition, coach Meredow said they will have time to acclimatize with the environment, although Turkmenistan, he said has an equally warm weather, but less humid.

Arriving with the team last night were goalkeepers Rahmanberdi Alyhanow and Gurbanmyrat Garayew; defenders Hemayat Komekow, Akmyrat Jumanazarow, Serdar Annaorazow, Annasahet Annasahedow, Begenc Saidmammedow, Muhammed Astanow, Kicigul Kicigulow;

Midfielders Azat Samyradow, Dowran Allanazarow, Nursahet Sapargylyjow, Gurbangeldi Batyrow, Furkat Tursunow, Ahmet Atayew, Merdan Gurbanow, Dawid Sarkisow (team captain), and forward Suleyman Muhadow, Hemra Amannammedow, Pirmyrat Sultanow, and Nurglyyc Diwanow.

Meanwhile, Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella, who was at the airport last night to welcome the Turkmenistan team, encouraged all Negrenses to come out and support the home team, Ceres- La Salle FC during the tournament. He said the cheers and chants of the crowd will boost the team's chances in the competition.

He also said the AFC President's Cup Qualifier at the Panaad Stadium is the biggest sporting event to happen in Bacolod this year, and he appealed to all Bacoleños to watch the matches at the Panaad and wear yellow shirts to support the local team.

Earlier, Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. also called on the Negrense community to support Ceres-La Salle FC. He also thanked the management of the team, headed by owner Leo Rey Yanson, for initiating the renovation of the Panaad Stadium to conform with the international standards required by the AFC.

Ceres La Salle FC will face the North Korea on May 6, at 5 p.m.; Chinese-Taipe on May 8 at 7:30 p.m., and Turkmenistan on May 10 at 5 p.m.*NAB
