MANILA -- Banks continue to borrow less from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ rediscount facility as they continue to beef up their capital.
BSP data show that as of Oct. 31, 2014, availments by thrift and rural banks on the central bank’s peso rediscount facility reached P1.1 billion, 93.6 percent drop from the P17.5 billion same period in 2013.
Of the total availments during the 10-month period, 77.9 percent was extended to commercial lending, 6.1 percent to agricultural and industrial credits, and 16 percent to other credits like permanent working capital, capital expenditures, other services, and housing.
Negros organic fest Nov. 19-23
The staging of the 9th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival on November 19-23, will feature product exhibition, farm tours, food displays, lectures and seminars on organic farming topics, at the fountain area of the Philippine National Bank near the Provincial Capitol Lagoon Park in Bacolod City.
An estimated 1,000 participants from Negros Occidental towns and the invited delegates from different regions and provinces of the country, are participating, Armigenia Benedicto, provincial focal person for organic agriculture said.
The festival will present an exhibit of organic products and by-products and equipment and machineries used in organic farming. A food alley will be put up for guests to buy and savor organic foods and baked goodies, fruits and vegetables for home consumption. Seminars and forums will also be given for the participants on organic agriculture, green economy, organic live stock and health and wellness, Benedicto added.
