With a twice to beat privilege, defending champion St. John’s Institute will be defending its high school girls’ volleyball crown against perennial rival University of St. La Salle-IS, in the NOPSSCEA Season 34 championship this Saturday at the USLS Covered Court in Bacolod City.
The Peter Yusay-mentored SJI girls’ advanced into the finals and secured the twice-to-beat advantage after turning back USLS, 25-13, 25-21.
Despite the loss, the La Sallians managed to secure the last ticket into the championship round by prevailing over Bacolod Tay Tung High School, 25-19, 25-16. With the loss, BTTHS settled for third place.
In the high school boys’ category, USLS-IS grabbed the first seat into the finals and a twice-to-beat advantage by holding off St. Joseph School- La Salle, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-23.
The loss forced the St. Joseph spikers to clash against Silly City-based Sta. Teresita Academy and dominated the latter, 26-24, 25-23, to arrange another titular showdown against the La Salle boys.
STA salvaged the third place honors by resisting the challenge from La Consolacion College –Bacolod, 8-25, 26-24, and 25-20.
In elementary boys’ volleyball competition, Queen of Peace School improved its record with another win against STA, 25-23, 25-22 while St. Scholastica’s Academy defeated LCC-B, 25-18, 25-16, as Nazareth INS prevailed over Tangub Christian Academy, 25-19, 31-19.
Results in the elementary girls’ category showed Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod taming BTTHS, 25-20, 25-16, while St. Benilde school turned back Trinity Christian School, 24-26, 29-27, and 25-14.
The SJI pulled off another one against USLS-IS with a 25-11, 25-13 in the elementary girls’ department as St. Francis Assisi School beat Megumi, 25-7, 25-8.*NAB
