Consumers education
seminars held

Seminars on consumer education were conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry in barangays and schools in Bacolod City, recently.

The seminars were aimed at educating the consuming public on their basic rights and responsibilities when buying, Reginald Hudierez, DTI Trade and Industry Specialist, said yesterday.

The seminars also focused on the newly-implemented mandatory product standards for hardware and electrical products, he said. They gave briefings to the participants on what to look for when buying electrical appliances or hardware products since there are fakes in the market today, Hudierez said.

The participants were also taught about marks on products to determine if they are imported, or locally made, he added. The reintroduction and definitions of such marks as PS which stands for Philippine Standard and ICC which stands for Import Commodity Standards were also explained.

The seminars participants were barangay officials, senior citizens and students.

Alangilan, Villamonte, Hervias National High School, St. Joseph High School, Negros Occidental High School and Bacolod City National High School hosted the seminars, Hudierez said.*MNM
