Sugar Regulatory Administrator Ma. Regina Martin yesterday said for the week ending of October 5, there was a marked increase in withdrawal of raw sugar.
Historically, based on SRA data around all saints/souls day, there is an observed increase in domestic demand for sugar in conjunction with this important religious celebration, she said.
There is an increase in mill site price of “B (domestic market)” sugar from P1,493.80 for week ending September 28, to P1,516.27 as of week ending October 5, she added.
With the 2014-2015 crop year having just started September 1, out of the 28 mills we have all over the Philippines, only eight mills are now operating in Negros, Martin said.
The total estimated domestic demand for this crop year is 2.25 million metric tons, she added.*CPG
