A jobless resident of the Cadawinonan Housing Project in Dumaguete City was arrested yesterday, after 25 to 30 grams of suspected shabu were seized from him in a search by the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, headed by Insp. Marvin Fegarido.
Nabbed was Arnaldo Catubay, 27, alias “Toto” who is suspected of being a distributor of illegal drugs in the area.
The search warrant was issued by RTC Executive Judge Gerardo Paquio Jr.
Five big bultos of “shabu”, with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of P275,00, a digital weighing scale, three cellphones where alleged transactions are recorded, empty plastic sachets, scissors and an eyeglass case where the illegal drugs were placed, were confiscated from a room in the unit owned by his aunt Rosie at Block 12, Lot 9.
Catubay vehemently denied ownership of the confiscated items, recovered in the presence of Cadawinonan barangay kagawad Jimmy Tabada.
During the search, several pawned items like basketball shoes and electronics equipment were also recovered, and Catubay could not remember their owners. Fegarido said that illegal drugs may have been given in exchange for the items.
Dumaguete police chief, Supt. James Goforth, ordered an inventory of the seized items.
The operation came a day after the anti-drug prevention and control summit was held in Dumaguete, by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Dangerous Drugs Board.
Meanwhile, two suspects were arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, headed by Insp. Ryan Jay Orapa, in Barangay Manipis, Tanjay City, in Negros Oriental yesterday.
The suspects were identified as Lou Jane Zerna, alias “Takya”, of Barangay 6 in Tanjay City and a certain Michael Vicente Martin Yulo, 46, of Barangay Poblacion 2, also in the city. Seized from them was a “big bulto” of suspected shabu, worth P59,000, and the marked money.*JG
