P334,000 ‘shabu’ seized
in Dumaguete, Tanjay

A jobless resident of the Cadawinonan Housing Project in Dumaguete City was arrested yesterday, after 25 to 30 grams of suspected shabu were seized from him in a search by the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, headed by Insp. Marvin Fegarido.

Nabbed was Arnaldo Catubay, 27, alias “Toto” who is suspected of being a distributor of illegal drugs in the area.

The search warrant was issued by RTC Executive Judge Gerardo Paquio Jr.

50 PDEA agents dismissed

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 7 director Jeffrey Bangsa said more than 50 agents all over the country were dropped from the service after being found positive for drug use.

Bangsa attended the anti-drugs prevention and control summit in Dumaguete City recently, and said PDEA does not allow its agents to use drugs and be like addicts just to penetrate drug syndicates.

He said they monitor reports regularly on confiscated drugs being recycled or resold in the markets since a 0.01 gram and one kilogram of shabu confiscated in buy-bust operations carry the same penalty for an accused found guilty by the drugs court.

Concrete road caves in

A portion of the concrete road leading to the geothermal power plants in Sitio Ticala, Barangay Caidiocan in Valencia town, Negros Oriental, slipped yesterday morning while landslips were also reported in the area after continuous rains of the past days.

Two days earlier the dilapidated and abandoned barangay hall of Puhagan, also in Valencia, fell several hundred meters down the slope in a landslide Wednesday evening.

Caidiocan barangay captain Antonio Tuting said that at around 6 a.m. yesterday, two minor landslides or landslips had been observed, followed by ground movement that caused a portion of the road to slip at 9:20 a.m.
