New Energy, Terra Dolce secure
semis seats in SJI Memorial Cup

Top seed New Energy/ Shakey’s 109-54 demolition of Batch 2013-JTE allowed the team to advance into the semifinals along with Terra Dolce/Po’s Digital Legends (1992 and Earlier), who posted an 81-69 win against Eleven Degrees.

This was in separate quarterfinal matches of the 6th Msgr John Liu and Msgr. John Su Memorial Basketball Cup at the Msgr. John Liu Activity Center in Bacolod City.

Eleven Degrees was poised to upset the Legends after leading at the half, 39-35, with Rhett Demonteverde, Jason Yap and Tim Garrucho delivering the points, but Terra Dolce bounced back in the third quarter with timely hits from Mark Yee and Alex Abay.

Even with the twice-to-beat advantage, the Legends made sure there will be no rubber match against Eleven Degrees as they stepped up their defense and sealed the win in the payoff quarter with a balanced offense.

Peewee Demonteverde paced the Legends with 15 poins while Yee and Bol Manaloto added 10 points each. Chris Javelosa and Alexander Abay hit 8 points apiece as Carlito Villanueva and Glin Ortaliz had an identical 6 points.

Eleven Degrees was led by Rhett Demonteverde with 13 points as Jason Yap added 10, and Tim Garrucho with 9 points.

Meanwhile, New Energy/Shakey’s outscored JTE in all quarters with Sean Weehansuh and Joshua Coo tallying 14 points each.

Axo Yao propelled JTE with 19 points, Eldric Go sunk 12, and Al Nemenzo made 9 points.*
