The Dumaguete City Veterinary Office trained more than 50 dog catchers before the full implementation of Ordinance No. 69, that will establish a mobile holding pen for dogs in all the 30 barangays of the city.

The two-day training held last week was attended by two representatives each from the barangays, who will be the authorized dog catchers in their areas.

CVO heads, Dr. Lourdes Socorro, said the training was shouldered by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Visayas Rabies Program that has consistently assisted and helped the city in its anti-rabies program.

Negros Oriental will celebrate its annual fiesta October 16-25, on the theme “Building Friendship Worldwide, Opening Development Opportunities”, and will highlight barrio life through a colorful opening parade on October 16.

Nichol Elman, Buglasan 2015 co-director, said 50 barangays were invited to join in the festivities and to produce a grand festival to stimulate economic movement in the province and reinforce Negros Oriental's position as an exciting tourism destination in the Philippines.

He said the “Pista sa Nayon” Buglasan will be a great opportunity for the barangays to showcase the various aspects of native fiesta celebration, and prizes will be given for the most innovative, indigenous and colorful presentations.
