Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia welcomed the plans of Megaworld Corp. to build two townships in the city, pointing out that our business infrastructure had long been ready to host them, a press release from his office said.
He also hopes the local government and the private sector extend their utmost welcome and courtesy to the investor.
Let us make sure we welcome them with open arms and not open palms, Leonardia said, adding that the benefits of the project would not just be on what the company can directly give, but more importantly in the jobs and other opportunities it will create and the economic acceleration it will spur.
Megaworld chose the right places for their planned townships, Leonardia added. The Upper East, as it calls one of them, is precisely one of our more exciting growth centers, especially after we opened the Bacolod Government Center in the area, he said. The Megaworld township fits perfectly in the development direction of this place which we kicked off with the construction of the BGC.
It is yet another validation of the wisdom behind our decision to construct the BGC in the area, he added.
It ironic that the incumbent mayor who trashed the NGC since its inception would now claim the economic waves it continues to create, Leonardia added.
Still, the projects can count on my support, the solon said. Our P1.7-billion public works projects that had been done and those in different stages of implementation by the Department of Public Works and Highways since July 2013 should inspire more development and investments for the city, he added.*
