Missing student found,
driver admits rape-slay

The body of a missing student believed to have been raped and killed, was found in a sugarcane field at Escala Road in Purok Boracay, Barangay Estefania in Bacolod City, at about 9 p.m. Thursday.

The student was identified as Shella Mee Condes, 19, of Barangay Estefania, a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology student at the West Negros University.

The body of Condes, that was in an advanced state of decomposition, was found naked, with both of her hands tied behind her, Senior Insp. Benedicto Villarias, Police Station 4 commander, said yesterday. moremoremore

Monico out of hospital after
arraignment reset

Bacolod City Administrator Rolando Villamor said yesterday that Mayor Monico Puentevella is already out of the hospital, but did not confirm reports that he left for Manila yesterday.

Earlier, his lawyer submitted a medical certificate issued by the Bacolod City Health Office stating that he is suffering from hypertension due to stress and should rest for 10 days.

The Sandiganbayan Fourth Division reset the arraignment of the criminal case filed against him to May 22, when he failed to show up at the hearing Thursday..moremoremore

Church starts drive to
aid Nepal victims

The Diocese of Dumaguete has initiated a collection campaign among its parishioners and citizens, to help victims of the tragedy in Nepal after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook the country on April 25, and a second major earthquake on May 12.

Bishop Julito Cortes said the church initiated the campaign to collect any amount from those who want to share their blessings, mercy and compassion to the victims of the earthquake in Nepal.  The death toll could reach 9,000 with more than 19,000 already in the injured list.

The second collection was held Sunday, May 10, and it will continue, Cortes said.moremoremore
