I'm a victim: Monico
Suspension executory immediately - Bayatan
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella yesterday said he believes that he is just a victim of politics since the graft case involving overpriced computer packages was filed against him eight years ago.
Puentevella said that under the justice system, if no case has been filed against a person within three years, it should be dismissed on the grounds of speedy disposition.
Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) yesterday said for the first time P2 billion has already been allocated in the 2016 national budget for programs to boost the sugar industry, and he is pushing for an additional P10 billion for farm to mill roads.
The Department of Public Works and Highways has savings of P33 billion from this year's budget and he is asking that P10 billion be used for farm to mill roads in sugarcane areas around the country, Benitez said.

A lawyer was shot dead in broad daylight yesterday morning after attending a court hearing in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental.
Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos, officer in charge of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said Ramon Elesteria, was on his way to his car when he was shot at close range twice in the chest, and in the head while he was already on the ground, by a lone gunman who fled after the shooting.
He said Elesteria, who retired as head of the Public Attorney's Office, was in Bayawan City yesterday as counsel for an accused in a drug case hearing. He was seen conversing with another lawyer on his way out of the Regional Trial Court Branch 63, presided over by Judge Ananson Jayme, and was shot before reaching his car. .
